2017 Show of Hands

Homelessness is real in the suburbs.

On any given night there are 2,500 teens that don't sleep at home in Minnesota - as many as nine each night in the Southwest Metro area. This is over 1,000 teens a year.

Teens feel more comfortable near their “home base” when dealing with crisis. The Hope House is a crisis shelter in our community that provides emergency support and services for homeless, runaway and at-risk youth. The Hope House is the only location in the Southwest Metro area to offer emergency housing to teens in crisis west of Uptown Minneapolis.

With your support, we will keep the crisis shelter open to meet the needs of youth and their families.

This Bonspiel is a unique kind of FUNraiser.

For the athletic, the adventurous or the curious - learn to curl at one of the nation's most popular curling centers or come to enjoy the entertainment, buffet dinner and celebrate the success Hope House.

FAQs

What is curling?
Curling is basically bowling on ice. It's a sport you can play at any age or level of physical ability and the rules are easy to learn.

What does the curling portion entail?
If you purchase a curling ticket, you will be given a short curling lesson followed by time on the ice playing a mini-spiel with your teammates. Total time on the ice is 1 hour. Space is limited for curling so register early to secure your spiel!

What should I bring/wear if I'm curling?
Bring along a clean pair of athletic shoes (carry them in, do not wear them in) and consider wearing a light jacket or hoodie, winter hat and gloves as you will be on ice.

What if I want to curl with friends?
Great - play with your friends or compete against them! Curling teams are made up of 4 people so you can create a group with you and another friend, 4 people for a team, or an entire lane of 8 people for a little competition against more friends.

When you purchase a curling ticket, you can choose what time you prefer to curl (3 rounds throughout the evening) and enter who you would like to curl with/against.This information will help is coordinate your request!

What if I don't want to curl?
No problem! Come and enjoy the live program and dinner, fun games and spectacular raffle while giving back to the community.

Where should I park?
Parking is free in the lot outside the Chaska Curling Center.

Give to the Max Day!

Make your $1 donation turn into $2!

Every dollar that you donate to Open Hands via our GiveMN site between now and 11:59pm on Thursday, Nov 17 turns into two dollars thanks to our anonymous donors.  Help us raise these funds to make a difference in the lives of youth in crisis in our community.

DONATE HERE

What impact does your donation make?

  • The shelter provides counseling, food, case management, medical care, support and shelter free of charge 24/7/365.
  • Your investment impacts our community.  These teens are our kids - 3-4 teens per high school are without shelter each night.
  • Since January of 2016, over 430 youth have been impacted by this shelter:
    • 83 have stayed in the shelter
    • 20 have participated in "out of program" counseling
    • over 300 have received support via text and phone for help services
  • This shelter keeps teens off the streets.  Studies show that if a teen is on the streets for over 24 hours, 75% of them will be violated or trafficked.
  • 100% of your donation goes directly to supporting the shelter for youth in crisis.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT!
